St. Helena Area Crash Kills One

On Thursday, April 2, 2020, a St. Helena area crash left one person with injuries that tragically cost him his life. Local authorities identified the fatally injured individual as Harry Gee, a 69-year-old resident of Daly City. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers indicated that the crash involved two vehicles and happened in the morning on a local highway. While the collision remains under investigation, police have placed one individual under arrest on DUI charges related to the accident.

Crash Details

CHP stated that the crash occurred at 7:30 a.m. on Highway 12 at the intersection of Oakmont drive a few miles west of St. Helena. A 29-year-old man was driving a pickup truck towing a large wood chipper eastbound on the highway approaching the intersection. At the same time, Gee was driving a Honda on Oakmont, preparing to make a left turn at the intersection in order to enter the westbound side of the highway. CHP indicated that preliminary investigations revealed that the pickup truck entered the intersection against a red light as the Honda navigated its turn. The pickup ultimately collided head-on with the driver’s side of the smaller vehicle.

Response to the St. Helena Area Crash

Officers responding to the accident found Gee inside of his vehicle with critical injuries. Sadly, he was declared deceased at the collision scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not reportedly injured during the crash.

Police at the accident scene placed the truck driver under arrest for driving under the influence of drugs. The driver is reportedly in the custody of the Sonoma County jail with a bail of $100,000.

The Impact of Wrongful Death

Losing a person in your life is never easy. When the loss is due to a preventable accident, it can make coping with grief even more difficult. In many cases, family members and friends of the decedent feel totally overwhelmed and may not even be able to fully process what happened. During the initial stages of grief, it’s important to take care of yourself as best as you can and to seek the support of people who care about you including family, friends, and people in your community.

However, a sudden death in the family can also have a huge financial impact. In many cases, the financial issues caused by fatal accidents make it almost impossible for people to focus on their emotional wellbeing. Families often experience a serious loss of income after losing a member of their household. In other cases, families no longer have access to services that their loved one used to perform, such as cleaning or childcare.

Getting Help

The stress of financial issues related to wrongful death cases can seem impossible to handle. However, it’s possible to get help by reaching out to a wrongful death lawyer. Many families are able to claim payments that fully cover their economic damages as well as compensation for their personal suffering. To learn more, it’s best to speak personally to an experienced lawyer in your area.
