St. Helena Man Hospitalized After Area Crash

On Monday, March 9, 2020, a St. Helena man was left with serious injuries following an area auto accident. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that this accident involved a big-rig as well as a pickup truck. While medical officials stated that the 34-year-old St. Helena man suffered severe injuries, updates on his condition are currently unavailable. CHP is actively investigating possible causes of the crash.

Accident Details

The accident happened at 3:19 p.m. on Highway 29 near Sulphur Springs Avenue. According to police reports, the St. Helena man was driving north on the highway in a 2015 Ford F-150. At the same time, a 2011 Freightliner was driving south in the same area with a full load of Calistoga-brand mineral water. As the vehicles approached one another, the Ford drifted left, entering the center turn lane. As a response, the big-rig driver reportedly veered right to avoid the smaller vehicle. However, at the last moment, the pickup made a left-hand turn, striking the driver side of the big-rig.

The impact of the crash caused the Ford’s driver-side door to tear off and fly into the air, landing around 30 feet from the accident. Additionally, the crash caused the big-rig to spring a fuel leak, leaving gasoline and oil spilled on the highway.

Response

Responders were sent to the crash scene as soon as the police were notified. As they arrived, response officials found that the Ford driver was badly injured. The man was rushed to the Queen of the Valley hospital for care. The driver of the big-rig, who was the only other person involved in the crash, did not suffer any trauma.

According to traffic reports, the highway was shut down in both directions following the accident so that CalTrans workers could clear the wreckage and hazardous materials from the road. The highway wasn’t fully reopened until after 9:00 p.m.

Trucking Accidents

Semi-trucks can weigh up to as many as 80,000 pounds. For this reason, they are liable to cause huge amounts of damage when they are involved in an accident. Collisions between semi-trucks and regular vehicles are very likely to involve serious or even fatal trauma.

Trucking companies are aware of the dangers of their businesses and are usually prepared to take immediate action when a crash occurs. In many cases, the company will dispatch their own legal team to the collision site so that they can gather their own evidence and witness statements.

Getting Help

In order to make sure that you receive the compensation that you deserve for the injuries you’ve suffered, it’s vitally important to call a trustworthy personal injury attorney as soon as you possibly can. Your lawyer will be able to work to prevent trucking companies and other liable parties from disclaiming responsibility.
