DUI Motorcycle Accidents in Solano County

Dixon and the rest of Solano County are great places to own a motorcycle. Dry, warm weather throughout most of the year, and close proximity to places like the Sierra Nevadas, the Napa Valley, and the Bay Area make it easy to take a long, scenic motorcycle ride. While riding a motorcycle regularly can be a blast, it also puts you at risk for suffering a serious injury in the event of a crash. One of the factors that commonly cause motorcycle accidents in Solano County is driving under the influence of alcohol. Learn more about alcohol and motorcycle accidents in Solano County by reading the following statistics.

Solano Motorcycle Accidents

UC Berkeley research shows that there were 1,196 traumatic motorcycle collisions in Solano County between January 1, 2008, and December 31, 2018. These collisions caused a total of 1,277 injuries ranging from minor to severe and cost another 69 people their lives. Just around half of these collisions occurred on a state highway while the rest occurred on county or municipal roads within Solano.

Causal Factors

The leading primary causal factor for motorcycle collisions was driving at unsafe speeds, which accounted for about 38 percent of the 1,277 crashes. After speeding, the most common primary causal factors were improper turning, right-of-way violations, and unsafe lane changing, accounting for 18, 11, and 10 percent, respectively.

The fifth-most-common primary factor was driving under the influence, which accounted for just under seven percent of all traumatic motorcycle crashes in the county. While DUI was involved in 115 of the total number of crashes, it was only the primary causal factor in 79 of these collisions.

Severity

According to the available data, motorcycle accidents involving intoxicated drivers were much more likely to involve a fatal or severe injury. The fatality rate for Solano motorcycle collisions overall was around 5.6 percent, while the rate for DUI-involved accidents was around 23.4 percent. This means that motorcycle crashes in Solano are nearly five times as likely to cause a deadly injury if one or more drivers are intoxicated.

Similarly, Solano motorcycle crashes, in general, had a severe injury rate of 18.4. For accidents that involved DUI, the rate was nearly 30 percent.

DUI and Liability

Drivers who choose to operate a vehicle after drinking make a choice to put the lives of other people in danger. Because of this, they are almost always considered negligent in the event of a crash and can usually be held financially responsible for damages caused during the collision. By filing a personal injury claim against negligent drivers and/or their insurance companies, crash survivors can often obtain payments for medical bills as well as lost income and other important damages.

However, injury claims can be complicated, and there may be more than one liable party. The best way to figure out whether or not you may be able to claim accident compensation through an injury claim is to reach out to a Dixon motorcycle accident attorney for personal advice.
