Serious Trucking Collision In Dixon

On Friday, February 28, 2020, a trucking collision in Dixon left multiple people with injuries. Initial California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports indicated that one of the individuals injured during the collision suffered life-threatening trauma. The crash involved a big-rig as well as multiple passenger vehicles. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Crash Information

The collision occurred during the morning at around 10:30 a.m. on Highway Interstate 80. According to CHP Officer Miguel Camarena, a gray Honda sedan had been traveling west on the highway near Pedrick road when, for unknown reasons, it collided with a Freightliner. The crash sent the sedan and the big-rig into the highway’s center divider.

According to reports, the Honda was stopped by the metal guardrail in the median. However, the large truck pushed through and entered into eastbound lanes where it collided with a white Subaru as well as a second big-rig carrying Amazon packages.

Response

Responders indicated that there was only one occupant in each of the four vehicles involved in the crash. The Freightliner driver, a 60-year-old man from Sacramento, reportedly did not suffer injuries. The Honda driver, a 47-year-old Vacaville man, was left with injuries and received treatment at the David Grant Medical Center. The second truck driver, a 67-year-old man from Auburn, also suffered injuries and was treated at the Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville.

According to police, the crash tore the Subaru apart into three pieces and left the driver, a 40-year-old man from Hayward, with serious injuries. The man was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for immediate care.

Response officials also stated that the accident caused a large amount of diesel fuel to spill onto the highway. However, the spill reportedly did not require a response from a hazmat team.

Investigation

CHP currently has the accident under investigation. Officers have asked that anybody with relevant information about this accident contact CHP at (800) TELL-CHP or at (707) 428-2100. Collisions such as this one are frequently caused by more than one factor and often involve causes that drivers are not able to control. These can include defective car parts, roadway issues, and more.

Trucking Accidents and Acting Quickly

The companies that own and operate big-rigs are very aware of the risks of operating their business. Because trucks are so large, they are difficult to maneuver and likely to cause major damages in the event of a crash. For these reasons, trucking companies are typically ready to start building a legal defense directly after collisions take place. In many cases, the company will send out a private legal response team to the accident site in order to conduct their own investigations.
