Police Vehicle Involved in Mather Field Road Intersection Accident

An accident injury occurred in Rancho Cordova on August 5 following a three-vehicle crash that involved a sheriff’s vehicle. The collision occurred at the intersection of Mather Field Road and Rockingham Drive, close to Highway 50, at around 2:00 in the afternoon. One injured party had to be extricated by firemen with Metro Fire. That person was then transported to a nearby hospital with injuries.

Intersection Accident Under Investigation

The original collision involved two pickup trucks, but one of them then struck the patrol vehicle. The officer in the patrol car was uninjured in the crash. The intersection was reopened around 2:30, according to the Rancho Cordova Police Department. An investigation is underway to determine how the collision occurred.

Causes of an Intersection Accident Injury

Intersections account for more than half of all traffic collisions. This is because all types of traffic, as well as pedestrians, converge in these locations from all directions at the same time. The presence of traffic signals meant to make these crossroads safer does little good if the drivers and others aren’t obeying traffic rules. Some of the most common causes of an accident injury at an intersection include:

  • Red-light runners cause the highest number of intersection accidents. When a driver runs a red light, there are probably already vehicles passing through. With nowhere to go, other motorists end up suffering an accident injury.
  • Drunk drivers are a menace to everyone sharing the roadway. Because a drunk driver cannot focus well, weaves in their vehicle, and shows a lack of judgment, they are a common cause of an intersection accident injury.
  • Texting, chatting on a cell phone and other forms of distracted driving are major reasons for an intersection accident injury, usually in the form of rear-end crashes when a vehicle is stopped and waiting for the light to change.
  • Fatigue can be a real problem in intersection accidents that occur after dark. Those who work long or changing hours, stay up late the night before, and for other reasons can drift over the line or even fall asleep at the wheel.
  • Speeding is a prime cause of all types of collisions, including those that happen at intersections. The speeder is always at risk of losing control of their vehicle or being unable to stop in time to avoid an accident. In addition, speeding can prevent a driver from being able to stop at a red light, and instead, they run it.
  • Government negligence can also cause an intersection accident. If the lights at an intersection are mistimed or malfunctioning, lighting is poor, signage missing or contains overgrown shrubbery, it becomes difficult for a driver and others.

An injury attorney can help you get compensation to cover the cost of all your injuries, the loss of wages, and your pain and suffering. When an accident occurs that isn’t your fault, it isn’t fair to suffer injuries and still be responsible financially for all the expenses. That’s where we come in. By handling your claim by negotiating with the insurance company for you or taking the case to court, you can rest and recover knowing that you’re in good hands.
