One Killed After Highway 108 Crash in Oakdale

One person was killed, and two others were injured after a car crash on Highway 108 just east of Oakdale on the morning of September 1, 2020. The auto accident occurred around 5:20 a.m. on Highway 108/120, just a quarter-mile east of the intersection with Lancaster Road. The incident involved four vehicles, including a commercial truck.

Preliminary Investigation of the Highway 108 Crash in Oakdale

A Ceres woman was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban SUV eastbound on Highway 120 and allegedly veered over the double yellow lines on the roadway to overtake slower-moving vehicles, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said. As the driver of the Chevrolet passed a 2009 Freightliner big rig, the truck driver reportedly moved the vehicle slightly toward the shoulder, according to witnesses at the scene.

While the Chevrolet driver was entering the oncoming traffic lane, the vehicle sideswiped a 2001 Honda Civic driven by a 54-year-old Turlock man. He was uninjured in the crash. The Chevrolet continued eastbound, lost control, and collided head-on with a 2014 Ford F-450 utility truck driven by a 52-year-old Sonora man. After the Chevrolet crashed into the Ford, the driver of the commercial truck was unable to avoid a collision and struck the SUV.

Nature of Injuries Reported in Multi-Vehicle Accident

The drivers of the Honda Civic and the big rig were uninjured in the multi-vehicle collision, the CHP reported. The driver of the Ford was transported by ground ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of minor injuries. Sadly, the passenger of the Chevrolet, 25-year-old Armando Morones of Empire, passed away at the scene. The Ceres woman driving the Chevrolet was taken by air ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of serious injuries. She was later placed under arrested by officials on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). Additional details about the traffic collision were not immediately available.

Losing a Loved One to a Fatal Accident

When an individual has lost their life due to the carelessness or negligence of someone else, it may be considered wrongful death under California law. Wrongful death is one of the most devastating experiences surviving family members can go through. This tragedy can result in immense pain for the family of the decedent. At our law firm, our Oakdale car accident lawyers understand how challenging this time can be. Our legal team is dedicated to helping you and your family get your lives back on track and obtain closure by seeking justice on behalf of your loved one.

What is a Wrongful Death Accident Claim?

After a fatal motor vehicle accident, surviving family members may take legal action by filing a wrongful death claim on behalf of a lost loved one. These types of cases allow survivors to hold the at-fault party financially accountable for their loss and damages incurred. Some of the economic and non-economic damages that can be recovered in a wrongful death lawsuit include funeral expenses, costs of medical care connected to the fatal incident, lost financial support, and loss of a loved one’s care, companionship, guidance, and training. While a dollar value cannot be placed on a loss of life caused by negligent parties, the family left behind deserves justice and compensation for their loss, and an experienced accident attorney can help obtain that on their behalf.
