Injury Accident Rollover Occurs in Highway Crash

An off-ramp traffic crash involving two vehicles happened along northbound State Route 51 on August 28 that injured one person. The accident happened on the Arden Way off-ramp and caused one of the vehicles to end up rolling over onto its roof. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said a witness to the collision reported one of the vehicles crashing into a tree.

Patient Transported to Hospital With Undescribed Injuries

First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department transported at least one person to Mercy General Hospital with undescribed injuries. The roadway was cleared about an hour later. The CHP is investigating the off-ramp traffic crash to determine what happened to cause it and to assign fault.

Entrance and Exit Ramps Are Common Locations for Highway Injuries

Entrance and exit ramps are among the most common locations for highway accidents. Because drivers have to change lanes to take a ramp, often fail to slow down and tailgate, accidents occur. An off-ramp traffic crash may involve a sideswipe accident, run-off-road collision or rollover, and they often result in serious injuries.

Dangers of a Rollover

Rollovers are among the most dangerous types of accidents. This is because once the airbags have deployed, they can deflate, exposing the passengers inside the vehicle to additional trauma. In some cases, although a seat belt can hold up to 1,000 pounds of force, if it’s defective, it can break, which can result in the vehicle occupant being ejected.

Roof Crush in an Off-Ramp Traffic Crash

An added danger in an off-ramp traffic crash that involves a rollover is roof crush, which is where the top of the vehicle can’t support the weight of the rest of the car. Manufacturers are required to build vehicles so that the roof can support 3.5 times the weight of the car or truck, but not all of them abide by that regulation. Roof crush often causes fatal injuries because it eliminates the vehicle’s survival space. Some of the injuries that occur due to roof crush include:

Retaining the Vehicle Following an Off-Ramp Traffic Crash

Following any accident, the vehicle should be retained so that it can be checked for defective parts or roof crush by engineers. If either of those are found, the injured party or grieving family can place a claim for damages by filing an auto product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer and others in the production line.

Conducting an Investigation Following an Accident

When an off-ramp traffic accident occurs, our investigators work toward gathering the evidence needed to support a client’s claim for compensation. This includes:

  • The investigators go immediately to the site of the off-ramp traffic accident to photograph the scene and vehicles as well as any road damage and collect evidence.
  • The police report filed by police is checked to ensure its accuracy.
  • The investigators perform accident reconstruction, which indicates how the vehicles were positioned before, during and after the off-ramp traffic crash. This type of evidence often shows which driver was at fault.
  • The witnesses are interviewed.
  • The investigators locate any traffic surveillance or business cameras in the area that might have caught the accident on video.
