Accident on Watt Avenue Occurs Between Motorcyclist and Vehicle

A motorcyclist injury happened in Sacramento on December 6 along southbound Watt Avenue just south of Marconi Avenue in the Arden-Arcade area. The accident involved a Toyota Prius and occurred around 6:31 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). When first responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived on the scene, they determined the motorcyclist had suffered a major injury. They transported their patient to Mercy San Juan Medical Center for further treatment.

More Information About the Motorcyclist Injury Accident

The motorcycle sustained major damage, and the Toyota involved in the crash had damage to its right front end. The CHP is carrying out an investigation into the cause of the motorcycle injury crash. It is uncertain if drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.

Major Motorcyclist Injury

Because of a motorcycle rider’s lack of protection, a serious motorcyclist injury is common in a collision with a motor vehicle. The weight and size discrepancy between the motorcycle and the motor vehicle adds to the danger a motorcyclist faces, especially on busy streets and highways. Overall, motorcyclists suffer fatal injuries 28 times more often than motorists in a collision. Motorcyclists who survive generally suffer more intense injury and require longer hospitalization and rehabilitation.

The more serious motorcyclist injuries are:

  • Traumatic brain injury: This is one of the more serious injuries a motorcyclist can suffer. While the use of a helmet protects the rider from brain injury, there are times when the helmet is not enough or is ill-fitting, failing to provide the rider with adequate protection. When this happens, the possibility of traumatic brain injury increases. In severe brain trauma, the injured motorcyclist may suffer life-long issues that impact their ability to work and which requires continued home care. In this situation, the help of an injury attorney is crucial since the need for a higher settlement or jury award is necessary.
  • Spinal cord injury: Next to a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord damage can cause extensive harm to the rider. For instance, a spinal cord injury can result in paraplegia or quadriplegia, both of which can seriously affect the rider’s ability to work and live as he or she did prior to the accident. This causes significant long-term financial damage, sometimes for the remainder of the rider’s life. An injury attorney can help the motorcyclist obtain the damages they deserve and need.
  • Chest injury: A blow to the chest can present with serious injury. For instance, rib fractures frequently damage the underlying structures they normally protect, such as the heart and the lungs. A punctured lung or heart damage can lead to significant and sometimes fatal injuries.

How an Attorney Can Help

After a motorcycle accident, an aggressive and experienced attorney’s help is vital. Insurance companies, knowing the extensive damage the motorcyclist might suffer, try to settle the case as soon as possible. The problem is the settlement is often inadequate.

An attorney who has experience in this type of case will insist on taking the time to investigate the accident. He or she will determine if a motorcycle defect might have caused the crash or if the government agency in charge of road maintenance failed to provide a safe thoroughfare.

The attorney’s investigators will also interview witnesses to the accident and obtain videos of the crash from surveillance cameras and other sources. At our firm, our investigative team also performs accident reconstruction techniques to determine liability.
