Accident at 25th Street Intersection Claims Life of Motorcycle Rider

A motorcyclist fatality was reported in Sacramento’s midtown recently after the rider lost control for unknown reasons. The accident was reported by the Sacramento Police Department around 6:30 in the evening at 25th Street and Capitol Avenue. Upon arrival, it was discovered the motorcycle rider had been seriously injured.

Authorities Investigating Cause of Motorcyclist Fatality

The rider was transported to a hospital, where he died. The motorcycle rider who died in the collision was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Kristopher Brandon Simmons, age 37 and a resident of Elk Grove. Traffic accident detectives are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Causes of a Motorcyclist Fatality

While many motorcyclist fatality accidents are because of an error committed by the rider, not all are. In some cases, an influence outside the motorcyclist’s control causes the collision. Some of these cases include:

  • Defective auto parts such as the brakes, accelerator, tires, or steering: It is important following a fatal accident to retain the motorcycle or other vehicle so that it can be checked for defects by investigators. When a defective part causes an injury or fatality, the manufacturer may be held liable by filing a product liability claim
  • Government negligence in the form of potholes, mistimed lights, and others: The government entity in charge of the design and maintenance of streets, roads, and intersections has to ensure the safety of those who use these areas. When an intersection is poorly designed or badly maintained, that government entity can be held financially responsible for the collision. Because the timeline for filing a claim is much shorter when a government entity is involved, asking the advice of an injury lawyer can ensure that the paperwork is filed correctly and before the deadline.
  • A hit-and-run driver: A driver who causes an accident and then flees the scene is more common these days. An injury lawyer can investigate the crash to determine if another motorist was the cause, including by performing accident reconstruction, talking to witnesses, and inspecting area traffic surveillance cameras. If it turns out another motorist was the cause of the motorcyclist fatality accident, the lawyer can investigate to locate that driver to hold them responsible for the harm they caused.

Helping a Grieving Family

Losing a loved one is always a terrible experience for family members, but more so when the death was sudden and due to someone else’s negligence. It can be difficult for coworkers, friends, and other family members to know how to show their empathy and support when this type of tragedy strikes. Some suggestions that might help are:

  • Call to express your sympathy, and send a condolence card or flowers to the funeral service. In some cases, the deceased individual had a favorite charity they supported, and making a donation in their name to that organization would be appropriate.
  • Send prepared or ordered food to the home. Those who are deep in grief are also in shock, confused, and stressed. They often don’t remember to sit down and eat, which is necessary to maintain their strength through a difficult time. Sending over food will be appreciated.
  • Offer to help by running errands, babysitting, or accompanying a grieving person to pick up a prescription or other chore.
  • If you are allowed to visit, pitch in and help by washing dishes, mowing the lawn, or other tasks.
  • Be a good listener. Those who are grieving often need a sympathetic ear. Talking about their loved one is one of the ways they work through their loss and come to accept it.
