Details on the Motorcycle Collision on O’Byrnes Ferry Road

A preliminary release indicated that a Jamestown man, age 65, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado on Peoria Flat Road approaching the intersection of O’Byrnes Ferry Road. At the same time, a Copperopolis man, age 18, was on a 2015 KTM motorcycle headed northbound on O’Byrnes Ferry Road. The pickup truck driver allegedly entered the intersection to turn left and was in the direct path of the biker.

The motorcyclist veered to the left to avoid the truck but was unsuccessful in doing so and struck the right side of the vehicle, CHP officers reported. The man was reportedly propelled off the bike and came to a rest along the right shoulder of the roadway. The motorcyclist was transported via air ambulance to a Modesto area hospital for treatment of severe injuries throughout the body.

The other driver’s vehicle came to a rest along the west shoulder of O’Byrnes Ferry Road. The motorist was uninjured in the incident, the California Highway Patrol reported. Additional details on the incident have not yet been released.

Things to Know About Motorcycle Accident Injury Cases

If a motorcycle rider is injured in a crash that was caused by the negligent or careless actions of another driver or entity, they may be entitled to reimbursement for economic and non-economic damages. While the total amount of compensation available in motorcycle accident cases will depend on the facts and circumstances involved, an attorney will help injured bikers understand and explore their options for financial recovery. In most cases, an injured party may be compensated for loss of income as they recover, diminished earning potential, medical bills, pain and suffering, and more.

Injuries from a motorcycle accident often require immediate and extensive medical treatment. As such, motorcyclists are expected to face long recovery times. Injured bikers may also be temporarily or permanently out of work due to recovering from the crash or being left with permanent disability due to the incident. An injured motorcycle rider who has uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage can rest easy knowing that their UM/UIM protection will kick in if the at-fault party has minimal liability insurance or no coverage.

There is a statute of limitations or deadline for a personal injury case in California. For most cases, a two-year time limit applies to accident cases. This means that an injured party has no more than two years from the crash date to settle the matter with the opposing side or file a lawsuit in civil court. Failure to file and protect the statute may result in the injured party being unable to seek compensation for their injuries and losses. Conversely, if a case involves a public agency, an injured party must file a notice of claim within six months of the accident date. For more details, contact an experienced attorney.
