El Centro Road Big Rig Accident Involves Ford Expedition

A big rig accident occurred in Sacramento on July 24, after which a trucker called police to say he struck another vehicle near a local truck stop. The accident was reported to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) around 9:48 in the morning at El Centro Road and West El Camino Avenue. The other vehicle involved was a Ford Expedition. Truck Vs. Passenger Vehicle Accidents

There is no comparison in terms of weight and size between a passenger vehicle and a truck. This is the reason that accidents between the two usually end in serious injuries or deaths. Some of the differences that are responsible for the deadly impact a truck has on a passenger vehicle are:

  • Weight: On average, a passenger vehicle weighs between 4,000 and 6,000 pounds. A tractor-trailer can weigh in at 35,000 to 80,000 pounds (loaded). A passenger vehicle is at a disadvantage in an accident. A truck accident lawyer can help the occupants of the passenger vehicle obtain the compensation they deserve.
  • Trailer height: A big rig accident can be caused by the semi having a wider distance between the bottom of the trailer and the ground. This can result in an override or underride accident.
  • Size: Most semis are approximately 20 times the size of a passenger vehicle.
  • Momentum: A large, heavier vehicle has much greater momentum than a smaller one. This means the impact made by a truck will greatly exceed that of a passenger vehicle.
  • Multiple brakes: The weight and size of a semi require that it has multiple brakes in order to handle the vehicle and stop. If a driver applies the wrong one or the brakes fail, it can result in a jack-knife collision or rollover.

Investigating Your Big Rig Accident

Conducting a good investigation is how we gather the evidence to support your claim. Our experienced investigators look for errors in the police report and interview the witnesses. They perform accident reconstruction and search for cameras that might have caught the big rig accident on tape.

The investigators look into the maintenance of the vehicle for negligence and the driver’s logbook or ELD. In some cases, the negligence can be traced back to the company that employs the driver, which means they share responsibility. Once the investigation is complete, our lawyers build a strong case favoring our client.
