MODESTO, CA – A man from Patterson lost his life, and three others were injured following a two-vehicle collision near Modesto on Thursday evening, July 16, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:51 p.m. at the intersection of Shiloh and Paradise roads, about 8 miles west of Modesto.
Investigators said a 29-year-old man from Patterson was driving east on Paradise Road when his Toyota pickup truck collided with a Rivian SUV that was making a left turn onto southbound Shiloh Road.
The Toyota driver died at the scene. His passenger, a 32-year-old Patterson man, sustained major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Rivian was being driven by a 16-year-old Patterson boy, who, along with his 38-year-old passenger, suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to a hospital as a precaution.
According to CHP, investigators believe the Rivian turned into the path of the oncoming Toyota, which was traveling at approximately 55 mph. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Authorities said everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, and there is no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
The intersection remained closed for roughly three hours as officers documented the scene and conducted their investigation.
