Intersection Accident Causes Major Injuries in Sacramento

Intersection Accident at Country Park Drive and Gerber Road

One person suffered major injuries in a two-vehicle intersection accident in Sacramento on March 31. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) at around 8:26 in the morning at Country Park Drive and Gerber Road. At least one injured person was transported to a hospital by emergency responders with a major injury. Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove both vehicles. The CHP is handling the investigation into the collision to determine its cause.

Intersection Accident

Intersections are complicated and drivers are often confused about who has the right of way. This is especially true when there is a 4-way stop without a traffic light. The general rule is that the vehicle that arrived at the stop goes first. However, reckless drivers often ignore the rules and proceed forward. This lack of concern for other drivers is an example of negligence. A Sacramento injury lawyer can procure the compensation you deserve in this type of accident by using evidence garnered at the scene of the crash.

Statistics for Intersection Accidents

Approximately 40 percent of all serious accidents occur at intersections nationwide. Ninety-six percent of all intersection accidents are due to driver error. Some of the more common infractions are:

  • Running a red light: Whether a driver fails to see a light turning red or because he or she is in a hurry and fails to stop, red-light running is a common cause of intersection accidents. A prime example of this type of accident is a T-bone collision where one vehicle is turning and another is going straight.
  • Collisions between turning vehicles: Drivers often try to turn when oncoming traffic is present, setting the stage for an intersection accident. Sometimes, inexperienced drivers are unable to judge the distance and speed of an oncoming vehicle and make the turn.
  • Distraction: Drivers who are busily playing with the radio or texting may not see that the driver in front of them has stopped. This leads to a rear-end crash.
  • Side-swiping another vehicle: Frequently, two vehicles are turning at an intersection when a collision occurs. This is called a side-swipe collision.
  • Failing to see a pedestrian or a bicyclist: Vulnerable individuals are often injured at intersections as they attempt to cross.

How Our Law Firm Investigates an Intersection Accident

Our law firm knows the importance of evidence at an accident scene, and we dispatch our investigators immediately to the crash site. There, they are able to interview witnesses and obtain videos of the accident from video surveillance cameras on traffic lights and businesses. The latter is invaluable when trying to prove who was at fault since the film catches the accident in real-time.

We also look for proof that roads were not maintained properly, leading to an intersection crash. This includes malfunctioning traffic lights, poorly maintained stop signs, failure to notify the driver that a stop is approaching or unkempt foliage. When this occurs, the government agency in charge of maintenance can be held liable. The deadline for filing this type of claim is much shorter than other types of cases. Your personal injury lawyer in Sacramento will ensure that all documents are filed in a timely manner.

Once all evidence is compiled, our investigators release it to our legal team. Our lawyers use it to build a robust claim for our clients.
