Injuries Reported in North Highlands Accident

A North Highlands accident on September 15 resulted in two persons being injured after three vehicles collided. The accident happened around 9:22 a.m. at the intersection of Watt Avenue and Larchmont Drive, according to the police log of the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Airbags in the vehicles deployed. However, the impact of the collision was enough that a tow truck had to be called to the scene of the North Highlands accident to remove one of those vehicles. Two people were transported by ambulance to Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries. One person was reported to have suffered a knee injury as a result of the collision.

Multiple Vehicle Collisions

A multiple-vehicle collision can lead to serious injuries due to a number of reasons. The vehicles do not only hit one another once, but they often rebound and strike each other a second and even a third time. The reason this is dangerous is that safety devices such as an airbag only deploy the first time. In subsequent strikes, the passenger or driver will not have any protection. Another aspect of a multiple vehicle accident causes problems when one or more of the vehicles enter an adjacent lane. When this occurs, other vehicles might be involved in the accident too.

Knee Injuries in a North Highlands Accident

Knee injuries can be serious and cause the injured party great distress for an extended period of time. There are some that are common in vehicular accidents such as one where the injured person’s knee strikes the dashboard. This is referred to as dashboard knee. When the patella or kneecap is fractured, the person will experience pain and swelling immediately afterward. Another type of dashboard knee injury occurs when the ligament behind the knee is injured. This ligament keeps the tibia or shin bone from moving in a posterior direction. If the accident impact pushes the tibia backward beyond the femur or thigh bone, the posterior cruciate ligament can be torn. Depending on the extent of the injury, it can cause the knee to dislocate. Symptoms are pain, swelling and instability. Many people say that they feel as if their knee popped out of place. There are three grade levels of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury. In grade I and II level injuries, rest, analgesics, ice, crutches, and physical therapy after the injury settles down may work. Even for grade III injuries, surgery is not always practical.

What an Attorney Can Do for You

It is important to gather as much evidence as possible to prove negligence without which a claim cannot proceed. Our law firm dispatches an investigative team to the scene of a North Highlands accident to do just that. Our investigators also interview witnesses to the crash, check police reports for accuracy and obtain video footage of the accident from traffic video cams and nearby businesses. Once this information has been gathered, we pass it on to our legal team. They use it to structure a strong case in your favor.
