Two-Vehicle Crash on Manning Avenue in Foggy Weather

A January 24 head-on accident in Fresno on Manning Avenue resulted in a major injury to one person. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident happened west of Chateau Fresno between a Nissan Altima and Honda Civic and that this rural area was foggy at the time. The injured driver apparently attempted to pass a slower vehicle and collided with an oncoming car. The injured person was transported by emergency responders to a nearby hospital for evaluation and further treatment. West Manning Avenue was shut down at South Chateau Avenue while a police investigation was conducted into the cause of the head-on accident.

Causes of Head-On Collisions

A head-on accident can occur for a number of reasons. Most of them are caused by driver error, such as the following:

  • Distracted driving such as texting or talking on a cell phone
  • Drunk or drugged driving
  • Fatigue
  • Speeding or other traffic offenses

Other head-on accidents happen without any error on the part of the driver. When these occur, the injured party may be able to place a claim for compensation if:

  • A defective auto part caused the crash. Brakes, accelerators, or steering wheels that are defective may show no problems until they lead to an accident. When a defective auto part causes an accident resulting in injuries, the injured party may place a product liability lawsuit against the parts supplier, manufacturer, and others in the distribution chain.
  • The poor design or maintenance on a roadway can lead to a head-on accident. Cracks, fissures, or potholes can cause a vehicle to cross the centerline into an opposing lane. Poor design or lack of warning signs or lane markings can make a driver think it is safe to pass when it isn’t. If roadway design or maintenance causes an accident, a claim may be placed against the appropriate government entity for damages.

How a Personal Injury Lawyer Helps

In order for an injury claim to be made, negligence on the part of another individual or entity must be proven. This is where a seasoned personal injury lawyer can help. Our investigators are sent right away to the site of the accident to interview witnesses, take photos, and review the police report for errors. They perform accident reconstruction, which can prove where the vehicles were before the crash happened, what happened to cause the incident, and where they ended up afterward. Our investigators don’t stop there and look for any traffic or business surveillance cameras nearby that might have caught the head-on accident on tape. Once all the evidence has been gathered, it is handed over to our lawyers. They use this information to build a strong case against the at-fault party, which can either be used while negotiating for you with the insurance company or in civil court.
