Fatal Vallejo Pedestrian Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo personal injury lawyer. One person was killed, and another was injured after they were struck by a vehicle in Vallejo on Friday, April 20, 2018. The identity of the deceased victim has not yet been confirmed. Officers are currently investigating the accident to identify causal factors. I would like to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased victim during this difficult time.

Response

Vallejo police officials reported that the accident was first discovered by a VPD sergeant who had been on a routine patrol at about 11:53 p.m. The officer said that he found a man on the roadway along Sonoma Boulevard south of the Lewis Brown Drive intersection. The sergeant indicated that the man appeared to have been struck by a vehicle and was apparently unconscious. Emergency medical responders were immediately called to the accident scene but were unable to help the injured man who was, sadly, pronounced dead.

A second individual with injuries, identified by authorities as a 30-year-old man from Vallejo, was also found at the scene with injuries and had apparently also been struck by the same vehicle. The injured man was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. No further information about the severity or nature of the man’s injuries were reported.

Investigation

Preliminary investigation at the accident scene revealed that the two men had been walking across Sonoma Boulevard eastbound outside of the marked crossing area and were far to the south of the controlled intersection at the time of the crash. During the investigation, police discovered that the victims were struck by a 2008 Ford Focus. Officers indicated that the driver of the Ford, identified as a 47-year-old man from Vallejo, was found shortly after the accident. The driver was reportedly located close to the accident scene. Officers are working to find out if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the collision, however, police said the driver did not seem impaired when he was found. VPD also added that speeding did not appear to have been a factor.
