Details on the Fatal Crash on Dodds Road in the Stockton Area

A 45-year-old Manteca man was driving a 2015 Chevrolet southbound on Dodds Road just north of Mariposa Road. At the same time, a 56-year-old Dos Palos man was driving a 1999 Chevrolet eastbound on Mariposa Road. Both vehicles approached the intersection, and the 2015 Chevrolet reportedly entered the intersection in the direct path of the 1999 Chevrolet.

According to CHP traffic officers, the driver of the 1999 Chevrolet was unable to avoid the other vehicle. This resulted in a broadside collision in the intersection. Officials said the Manteca man is facing DUI charges in connection to the car accident. He was booked into San Joaquin County Jail.

A passenger in the 1999 Chevrolet suffered serious injuries and was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment. A passenger in the 2015 Chevrolet, a 52-year-old woman from Manteca, suffered injuries described as moderate and was also hospitalized. A 10-year-old Manteca girl who was also a passenger of the 2015 Chevrolet was transported to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. Sadly, the Dos Palos man was declared deceased at the scene.

Loss of a Family Member

The sudden and unexpected loss of a close relative may be a tragic experience. Friends and family may be left angry, shocked, and heartbroken. If the loss occurred because of another driver or entity’s negligence in a traffic collision, survivors may be entitled to the financial recovery of resulting damages from insurance carriers. Negligence may come in several forms in car wrecks, including speeding, not following the rules of the road, distracted driving, DUI, and other careless and reckless behaviors. The family must bring a claim with the insurer to recover the resulting losses. However, the issue is that insurance companies rarely make the wrongful death claims process straightforward.

After a fatal car accident, insurers may use various defense tactics as a way of protecting their bottom line. This may include making a quick lowball settlement offer in hopes of surviving family members accepting without realizing the true extent of their losses. Claims adjusters may also reach out to the family for a recorded statement to attempt to get details on the incident that may be used against survivors in their case. Any of these situations may leave a family bearing the stress and costs of the crash. The best thing a family may do is to retain an experienced attorney immediately to protect their rights and best interests.

It is essential to keep in mind that each wrongful death claim is subject to a time limit on filing a lawsuit known as the statute of limitations. A two-year statute of limitations applies to these cases, as outlined in the California Code of Civil Procedure Section 335.1. Therefore, it is critical to act quickly when considering bringing a case against negligent parties. This includes working with an attorney who has years of experience handling cases arising from wrongful death car accidents.
