Cottonwood Area Motorcycle Crash Causes Deadly Trauma

On Tuesday, May 12, 2020, a Cottonwood area motorcycle crash left one person with injuries that cost him his life. The decedent’s identity was reported by Yolo County Sheriff’s Office officials the following day. He was identified as Andrew Hoffert, a 61-year-old man and resident of Lake County. The cause of this tragic accident is being investigated at this time.

Crash Details

The accident occurred in Capay Valley near the small community of Guinda, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP). At around 11:00 a.m, Hoffert was driving his motorcycle heading west on Highway 16 to the east of County Road 57. For reasons that remain unknown, Hoffert’s motorcycle veered off-road and eventually struck a tree on the side of the highway, throwing Hoffert off the vehicle.

After the crash was reported to CHP, a team of emergency responders was rushed out to the collision scene. As they arrived at the scene, officers found that Hoffert had received critical injuries. Shortly after, he was pronounced deceased. No other individuals or vehicles were reported to have been a part of this collision.

Investigation

As officers are investigating the crash, CHP hasn’t mentioned any likely collision causes. In order to help officers better understand the crash, anybody with information about the incident has been asked to contact CHP’s Woodland office by calling (530) 662-4685.

Motorcycle accidents like this one are tragically very common and are liable to be caused by a wide variety of different factors. In many cases, these collisions are caused by non-driver factors or things that motorcyclists can’t control. Such factors can include things such as issues with the pavement or design of the road as well as malfunctioning or otherwise defective motorcycle parts.

However, in accidents where motorcyclists aren’t able to indicate to police that there may have been a non-driver factor involved in the accident, investigators are liable to overlook these causes. To ensure that an accident is investigated with your family’s rights as a priority, the best thing you can do is to reach out for help from a wrongful death attorney in your area.
