Decedent Identified After Corning Highway Crash

Decedent Identified After Corning Highway Crash

On Monday, January 7, 2019, a local man was identified after he tragically lost his life in a major car accident four days earlier. The man was identified as Julio Amador, a 24-year-old from the small community of Gerber. The accident reportedly involved two vehicles and left four other individuals with injuries requiring treatment at a hospital. Reports indicated that the injured individuals’ trauma ranged from moderate to major. Area California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers are actively investigating the accident to determine how it was caused.

My thoughts and sympathy are with Mr. Amador’s grieving friends and family in their time of loss and sorrow.

Crash Information

CHP reports regarding the crash state that Amador had been riding as a passenger of a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Corning woman. The woman had been driving a 2005 Mazda 3 and was heading south on Highway 99W to the north of Westover Road only a few minutes after 9:00 p.m. Amador had been one of three passengers in the vehicle. The other two passengers were identified as children, aged one and two-years-old.

While the Mazda was headed south on 99W, a 2017 Honda Accord driven by a 21-year-old Red Bluff resident was heading north toward its location. For reasons not yet known, the Mazda veered across the median of the highway and abruptly entered the path of the oncoming Honda. The front of the Honda reportedly crashed into the right-hand side of the Mazda, causing significant damage to both of the vehicles. Both cars eventually came to a stop along the eastern shoulder of the roadway.

Response

People who had been in the area of the crash when it took place reported that the drivers were stuck inside their vehicles following the auto accident. Multiple uninvolved drivers reportedly stopped at the accident scene to help. When emergency responders arrived, injured parties were extricated from their cars and placed in ambulances. According to reports, both children were transported to the St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries. The children were later transferred by helicopter to the Sacramento UC Davis Medical Center to receive further treatment.

Amador was also transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased during hospitalization. The drivers of the Mazda and Honda were taken to the Mercy Medical Center to be rendered treatment for moderate leg injuries.

Investigation

CHP has asked the public to help them with investigating this crash. Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact CHP’s non-emergency phone line, (530) 527-2034. So far, officers have not stated any suspected accident factors.

Calling an Attorney

Accidents can leave families shocked and unsure of what to do. The emotions that people endure knowing that their loved one has been seriously or fatally injured are usually intense and can be overwhelming. While emotional healing is crucial to recovery, it is also important not to let these feelings keep you from contacting an attorney. The sooner a Corning wrongful death lawyer begins working on your case, the more capable they are of making sure you can hold negligent parties responsible in a wrongful death claim.

Even though you may know that you need a lawyer, you may be worried about finding one that you can trust with your case. To learn a little bit more about making sure your attorney is reputable, see the below video:
