Water Pump Recall

The American automaker, Chrysler (FCA US LLC), has recently announced the recall of their popular pickup trucks. The reason for the recall originates from a safety issue in the engine and engine cooling components of specific vehicles. If unresolved, the issue may increase the risk of fire to vehicle occupants.

Recall Details

Chrysler is recalling approximately 443,712 vehicles manufactured with the Cummins 6.7L turbo diesel engines. The hazard stems from a defect in the Concentric-brand water pumps equipped in these vehicles. These water pumps allegedly do not have a vent hole and may leak coolant. In the event of a leaking water pump, this significantly increases the risk of a fire in the engine compartment in these affected vehicles.

What is Water Pump?

The cooling system of motor vehicles is under immense stress to maintain a stabilized engine temperature, especially during the hot summer days. A critical component in engine cooling is the water pump. The function of this part is to circulate coolant between the radiator and the engine to prevent overheating.

Common signs of a failing water pump include:

  • Coolant leaking at the front-end of the vehicle
  • Overheating engine
  • Steam coming from the radiator
  • Loose water pump pulley making high pitched sound

It is best to recognize the signs of a failing component in your vehicle. Inspection is key to preventing a stalled vehicle along the roadway. Have your vehicle inspected by an experienced mechanic shop, particularly authorized dealers or shops with high customer ratings. Improper vehicle maintenance typically leads to unreliability, towing expenses, and costly mechanic shop bills.

Which Vehicles?

The following vehicles are affected by the water pump recall:

  • 2013 to 2017: Dodge Ram 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis

Recall Remedy

Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by Chrysler. Dealers will replace the water pumps, at no charge to vehicle owners. The recall is expected to initiate by November 1, 2017.

Auto Products Liability

Product liability is a segment of personal injury law that concentrates on the distribution of defective and dangerous products. Manufacturers are obligated to deliver safe products to their consumers. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties and other potential losses.

Automobile accidents resulting from a defect in a vehicle can lead to serious injuries, various damages, and even death. If a party has suffered injuries or property damages due to an accident caused by a vehicle or a vehicle part that was defective, it is possible for that party to file a product liability claim. However, such claims can be time-consuming and complex. It is vital to consult with a knowledgeable Fresno personal injury lawyer to help protect your rights in an auto product liability claim.
