Copperopolis Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash
On Sunday, April 26, 2020, a Copperopolis man tragically lost his life during a vehicle accident in Calaveras County. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash happened in the evening near Black Jack Bluffs on a rural road. The decedent has been identified as 62-year-old Charles Brechtel. According to officials, no other individuals suffered injuries during the incident and the crash remains under CHP investigation. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of Mr. Brechtel’s family to help pay for funeral expenses.
Collision Information
The collision occurred at around 5:50 p.m. on O’Byrnes Ferry between highways 120 and four. Brechtel was driving a 1987 Harley Davidson northbound when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle crossed into southbound lanes. As the motorcycle entered oncoming traffic, it collided with the left-front corner of a southbound 2013 Chevrolet Equinox reportedly being driven by a 29-year-old resident of Davis.
The area CHP office dispatched responders to the accident site right after they were notified about this crash. When the emergency responders located the crash scene, they discovered that Brechtel had been badly injured despite the proper use of a motorcycle helmet. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased on-site. Police reported that two individuals were inside of the Chevrolet at the time of the accident, but that neither suffered injuries.
Investigation
As police continue with their investigation into this accident, officers have indicated that they do not believe driver intoxication was a factor. However, no other possible factors have been mentioned. Crashes such as this one are common and frequently happen because of things drivers aren’t able to control. Non-driver factors in accidents can include roadway issues, defective motorcycle products, and more.
The Impact of a Deadly Accident
A fatal accident can be devastating for families. Receiving the news of a loved one’s death can be very painful and many people undergo an intense grieving process, especially after an unexpected accident. During this period, it can be hard to focus on anything, and dealing with even normal tasks can be difficult. While you are grieving, it’s important to rely on the support of the people in your community, friend group, and family and to do what you can to care for yourself and your loved ones.
One of the important steps to take following a fatal accident is contacting a wrongful death lawyer. While many want to delay reaching out to an attorney, wrongful death cases move quickly, and having legal representation early on can make a critical difference for you and your family, especially if the accident has left you with a sudden loss of income and/or access to important services.
Finding a Good Lawyer
Wrongful death cases are both sensitive and highly important. For these reasons, it’s important that you have a lawyer you know you can trust with your case. Fortunately, it isn’t difficult to get in touch with a skilled, compassionate, and experienced lawyer if you know how to look. For more information about finding the help you need, watch this video:
