Caltrans Schedules Construction Project for Napa County Bridge

Caltrans stated that they would be doing a construction project on a Napa County bridge during the week of Wednesday, September 30, 2020. The construction was expected to last for three days and would focus on the Conn Creek Bridge on State Route 128. Officials have indicated that the construction is expected to make the road safer for commuters and will reduce the risk of serious accidents in the area.

The Project

Construction for this project was scheduled to take place beginning at 6:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Caltrans stated that workers would be installing critical bridge components as part of the Conn Creek Bridge Replacement project.

Caltrans District 4 Spokesman Pedro Quintana reported that this project is necessary due to “wear and tear” from the creek’s current affecting the foundation of the bridge. Additionally, Quintana added that the project would widen the bridge so that it could more easily accommodate large trucks marking right-hand turns from eastbound State Route 128 in order to enter Silverado Trail.

Highway Closures

In order to complete construction, authorities have scheduled roadway closures on State Route 128. The closures will mean that drivers will need to take a temporary detour when traveling on the highway between Sage Canyon and Conn Creek Roads. Traffic flaggers will reportedly be on-site in order to direct motorists to the detour. Quintana told reporters that area commuters should expect significant traffic delays during construction.

Roadway Defects and Liability

When people think about liable parties in car accidents, they typically imagine a reckless driver who is intoxicated, distracted, or violating some other traffic law. While the large majority of traumatic car crashes involve negligent motorists, there can also be other at-fault parties to the accident. One of the most common non-driver factors in car accidents is dangerous roads. If a road has serious pavement damage or is designed improperly, the government that is responsible for maintaining that road is sometimes considered an at-fault party to car accidents that happen in that area.

If the government entity is determined to have been partially or fully responsible for the accident, they can often be held financially responsible by accident survivors. This means that injured individuals can file an injury claim against the government entity in order to pursue compensation for their losses. However, filing a claim against a government body is typically more complicated than a normal injury case.

Taking Quick Action

One critical difference with government-involved injury claims is that injured individuals have a much shorter time frame to file their case. While this is meant to help governments make necessary changes to dangerous roads, it puts crash survivors at a disadvantage. In order to make sure that you are able to obtain the payments you deserve, it’s important to take quick action and call a Napa personal injury lawyer right away.
