Double-Vehicle Collision in Oroville Causes Fatal Trauma

On Thursday, December 17, 2020, one person sustained deadly injuries during a collision in Oroville. The accident reportedly involved two vehicles and happened in the morning on the southern edge of the city. At this time, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office is withholding the identity of the decedent pending family notification. In addition to the fatally injured individual, one other person sustained major trauma during the accident. No other parties were reported to have been involved in the crash.

Collision Details

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers reported that the accident happened shortly after 8:10 a.m. on Lincoln Boulevard to the north of the Monte Vista Avenue intersection near the Memorial Park Cemetery. An unidentified individual was driving a teal sedan northbound on Lincoln when they entered a curve in the road. While navigating the curve, the driver apparently lost control of the sedan and swerved over the median, entering southbound traffic.

As the sedan entered southbound lanes, it entered the path of an oncoming Toyota. The two vehicles crashed directly into each other, causing major damages to both.

Response

After receiving a phone call reporting this accident, CHP dispatch rushed a response team out to the scene. Officers arriving at the site discovered that both vehicle drivers had sustained severe injuries. Tragically, the Toyota driver lost their life on-site. According to reports, the other driver was rushed to the Enloe Hospital in Chico for emergency treatments. Updates on the individual’s health haven’t been provided by hospital staff.

Investigation

CHP officers have indicated that they are at work conducting a full investigation into possible causes of this terrible accident. However, at this point, officers have not reported any factors they suspect to have been involved.

Auto accidents are often complicated events that involve more than a single cause. Furthermore, some very common auto accident causes are things that may not immediately come to mind because they are outside of driver control. Examples include driving a car with defective parts or using roads that have major pavement damage.
