Accident at Fruitridge Road Intersection Injures Bicyclist

A bicycle injury accident involving a motor vehicle was reported in Sacramento on February 2. The collision happened around 4:19 p.m. at the intersection of Fruitridge Road and Hedge Avenue. The injured bicycle rider was transported to Mercy General Hospital for additional evaluation of their injuries by Sacramento Fire Department medics. The driver remained at the accident scene, according to the report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Bicycle Injury Accidents and Causes

In the same way as others, bicycle riders must obey the rules of the road. As a result of their low visibility and vulnerability, they are frequently hit by negligent drivers. As a cyclist, you might need to seek compensation if you face serious injury and need a long recovery period. These accidents occur because of driver negligence for a number of reasons, including the following:

  • Turning at an intersection without checking for bicyclists in the crosswalk: While a driver can go through a green light, they are still obligated to be cautious and avoid colliding with a bike rider and causing serious injuries.
  • Distracted Driving: Bicycle accidents are often caused by distracted driving, which is one of the leading reasons for traffic collisions. The motorist who is texting, talking on their phone or doing anything else that takes their attention away from driving can cause a serious bicyclist injury.
  • Speeding: If an emergency occurs, a speeding driver will need a longer distance to stop, increasing the likelihood of losing control of their vehicle. An accident where a speeder hits a bicycle rider or pedestrian can also result in more severe injuries and a greater risk of fatalities.
  • Changing lanes unsafely: Many motorists go into the bicycle lane when they are making a right turn. If they fail to check before turning to see that the bike lane is unoccupied by a rider, they can cause a bicyclist injury.
  • Impaired driving: Drinking or using drugs intoxicates a driver, who may have trouble judging distances, difficulty tracking with their eyes, and slowed reflexes. Accidents involving bicyclists often result from a collision with an impaired driver.
  • Red-light runners: Accidents involving bicycle injuries are often caused by negligent drivers who run red lights or stop signs while passing through intersections.

Consulting a Lawyer Following a Bicycle Injury Accident

A bicycle accident caused by a negligent driver may give you the right to file a claim for compensation. My law firm has handled numerous claims of this type successfully over the years. If you are in a bicycle injury accident, we can answer any questions you have, review your case and tell you what compensation options may be available to you.

Bicycle Injury Accident Investigation

During an investigation, evidence can be uncovered that makes a case for the client’s recovery of financial damages. Investigators from our firm immediately go to the accident location to interview witnesses and check the police report for errors. Investigators also gather evidence such as video footage from traffic cameras, violations of the three-foot distance rule and damage to roadways.

It is now time for our injury lawyers to take possession of the evidence and build a strong case that supports our client’s compensation claim. Damages can be recovered for all medical expenses, lost wages and more.
