Auto Accident Near Corning Injures Four People

On Friday, June 26, 2020, four people suffered injuries during an auto accident near Corning. California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the crash involved three vehicles and happened in the morning on a local highway. According to reports, none of the individuals involved in the accident suffered life-threatening injuries.

Crash Information

The collision occurred just before 11:00 a.m. on Highway Interstate 5 close to the junction at Gyle Road around a mile north of Corning. According to CHP, a Cottonwood man driving a Toyota swerved in order to avoid crashing into a Ford that slowed in front of him on the northbound side of the road. After attempting to avoid the Ford, the Toyota reportedly struck a Chevrolet in the adjacent lane. After the initial collision, the Toyota swerved back into its original lane and collided with the Ford. The impact with the Ford reportedly caused it to roll over.

Response

Authorities of CHP were alerted to the accident by a witness who called in to report it. Emergency responders were immediately sent to the scene and arrived shortly after the crash occurred. When they arrived, medical professionals determined that four people had suffered injuries. Whether or not any of these individuals were hospitalized has not yet been reported.

Investigation

As CHP continues their investigation into this accident, no likely causes have been reported as of yet. In collisions involving multiple vehicles, there is frequently more than one causal factor. Additionally, many multi-vehicle car accidents are not caused by drivers but happen due to factors like malfunctioning vehicle parts or dangerous problems with the road.

Rollovers and Roof Crush Injuries

When a passenger vehicle overturns, drivers and passengers suffer serious and fatal injuries at a higher than normal rate. The NHTSA has published data showing that rollovers make up ten percent of fatal collisions while only accounting for two percent of crashes overall.

There are multiple reasons that rollovers are dangerous. However, one major reason is roof crush injuries. These injuries occur when the roof of a vehicle collapses during a rollover and intrudes into the vehicle cabin, injuring occupants. Roof crush injuries are most likely to occur if the car has a poorly designed roof or isn’t made of strong enough material.

After accidents involving roof crush injuries, crash survivors may be able to obtain compensation for their losses by filing a personal injury claim against the vehicle manufacturer. This is because car companies are expected to ensure that their products are reasonably safe. If your attorney can prove that the vehicle roof wasn’t strong enough to protect its occupants, it is often possible to claim substantial compensation in order to pay off medical bills and make up for other losses as well. For this reason, it is vital to preserve your wrecked vehicle after a rollover as evidence so that your attorney can investigate its roof.
