Accidents March 30

STOCKTON, CA — A tragic traffic collision on SR-26 west of Avalon Drive has resulted in the loss of one life and left another person injured, according to the California Highway Patrol in Stockton.

Authorities report that the crash occurred when a 2006 Toyota Scion moving eastbound moved off course, entered the gravel shoulder, and then overcorrected back into traffic lanes, colliding with a 2002 GMC.

The operator of the Toyota became trapped inside the vehicle, which later caught fire.

Emergency responders arrived at approximately 3:17 p.m. The driver of the GMC was able to get out of the vehicle and sustained only minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota was transported to San Joaquin Medical Center, where he later passed away from his injuries.

Officials are withholding the victim’s identity at this time until family members have been properly notified.

ATWATER, CA — A driver narrowly avoided critical injury after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing along State Route 99, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident happened just before 3 a.m. on southbound Highway 99, just south of the Atwater-Merced Expressway. Authorities say the driver dozed off while driving, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway and roll over several times.

Despite how severe the crash appeared, the driver was able to get out of the vehicle and reported only pain in their leg, CHP said.

Officials are using this incident as a reminder that drowsy driving is a serious and often overlooked risk. Fatigue can affect reaction time and decision-making in ways similar to alcohol or drugs, and even a brief moment of inattention can lead to a crash.

Drivers are encouraged to pay attention to warning signs like heavy eyelids, repeated yawning, or drifting out of their lane. If those signs appear, pulling over somewhere safe to rest can make all the difference.

CHP stresses that no destination is worth putting lives at risk, and that taking a short break could help prevent a tragic outcome.

MANTECA, CA – In Manteca on Saturday morning, a multi-vehicle crash left several people injured. According to the Manteca Fire Department, the crash occurred close to 9:10 a.m. on eastbound Highway 120, just west of Highway 99. Officials say the incident resulted from one driver rear-ending another vehicle, setting off a chain reaction that ultimately involved five vehicles.

Emergency crews responded to assist those involved. Two individuals suffered serious injuries, while five others experienced minor injuries and chose not to be transported to a hospital, the Fire Department reported.

Authorities continue to remind drivers to stay alert and maintain safe following distances to help prevent accidents like this.

STOCKTON, CA — A heartbreaking crash south of SR-4 on Escalon-Bellota Road claimed one life and left another person seriously injured Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol in Stockton.

The collision occurred around 1:08 p.m. Authorities say a 43-year-old man from Modesto was riding a 2008 Honda motorcycle with a 41-year-old passenger when they approached a Ford pickup truck pulling a livestock trailer. The Ford had decelerated to perform a left turn, and investigators believe the motorcycle driver didn’t recognize this in time, leading to a collision with the trailer.

Both the rider and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle upon impact. The passenger suffered major injuries and was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment. Tragically, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford pickup was not injured.

Officials say it is still unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, and the incident remains under investigation.
