Pedestrian Dies in Dixon Highway Accident
One man lost his life during an auto accident in Dixon on Monday, April 8, 2019. The accident involved one vehicle and a pedestrian who was fatally injured. Authorities stated the name of the fatally injured man is Robert Gingerich, a 58-year-old resident of Dixon. Crash Information
According to information reported by California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash took place at around 8:10 a.m. The Dixon man had been driving a pickup truck eastbound on Highway Interstate 80 when a ladder fell out of the back of his vehicle. The pickup truck driver pulled over to the side of the highway and began reversing his vehicle back to the location of the ladder. After backing up, the man exited his truck and entered into the slow lane of the highway in order to retrieve the ladder. The man was tragically struck by an oncoming Toyota Camry directly after he entered the highway.
Emergency officials were immediately sent to the crash site after CHP was contacted about the accident. Responders arriving at the accident scene discovered that the pedestrian had suffered critical trauma. The man was sadly declared deceased on-site. Police stated that a child in the passenger seat of the parked pickup truck did not suffer any physical trauma. However, we can only imagine how terrible it must have been to be involved in this incident.

CHP investigators are currently investigating this accident in order to determine what factors may have been involved.
