Fatal Dixon Highway Collision

I’m Ed Smith, a Dixon wrongful death lawyer. Two people, a man and a woman, received severe injuries that cost them their lives during a recent accident in the Dixon area. Officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred on Friday, July 20, 2018, at a highway location only a few miles south of Dixon. Officials from the Solano County Sheriff’s Department are still in the process of notifying the families of the fatally injured individuals and have not yet released their identities. My condolences are sent out to those who are grieving the loss of their loved ones following this tragic collision.

Accident Details

According to CHP’s accident report, the collision took place at about 5:00 p.m. on Highway 113 south of the I-80 on-ramp between Fry and Hay Roads. Officers stated that a man had been driving a gray Mini Cooper northbound on the highway at dangerous speeds. While he was speeding, his vehicle drifted off of the highway.

Reports state that the man attempted to turn back on to the road, but overcorrected and veered into the oncoming highway lane. Entering the southbound side of the highway put the Cooper directly into the path of a gray Kia SUV, and the two vehicles collided head-on at high speeds. Photos of the accident show that one of the vehicles overturned and landed on the highway shoulder.

Response

Responders were sent to the crash site by CHP almost immediately. Medics said that they discovered that both drivers had been severely injured during the crash. Tragically, both of the drivers’ injuries were too severe for treatment and medical officials declared them deceased at the accident scene.

Reports did not state whether or not any other parties had been inside either of the vehicles. However, no other injuries related to the crash were reported.

Investigation

The highway was closed during accident response and while officers initially investigated the crash site. CHP is investigating the accident further in order to fully understand what factors may have been involved. While speeding has been listed as a factor, officers have not mentioned any other suspected causes.

Calling a Wrongful Death Lawyer

When accidents cost people their lives, it can leave their loved ones devastated. Those who rely on the decedent for financial and emotional support not only have to go through the mourning process, but often struggle to make ends meet due to lost income, hospital bills, and other expenses.

For these reasons, families and dependents of people who lose their lives in accidents are often able to claim money for their losses. Calling a wrongful death lawyer as soon as you can not only allows you to focus on emotional healing but can be vital in claiming the recompenses you deserve.
