Yuba City Head-On Collision

I’m Ed Smith, a Marysville-Yuba City accident lawyer. In the early hours of Friday, February 3, 2017, a head-on crash happenened on Highway 99 in Yuba City.

What Happened?

According to reports by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a multi-vehicle head-on collision occurred around 7:00 a.m. Reports indicate that a 32-year-old male was traveling northbound on Highway 99 near Bogue Road in his pick-up truck when for unknown reasons he crossed over the highway’s center divide and hit a 32-year-old women head-on who was traveling southbound along the same highway.

Were There Injuries?

Yes. Both of the drivers involved in this head-on collision suffered traumatic injuries. The impact of the accident was so severe first responders from the Yuba City Fire Department had to extricate both of them out of their respective vehicles. Once the drivers were freed from their cars they were rushed by ambulance to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Yuba City for treatment of their injuries.

Ongoing Investigation

Investigators from the CHP have the task of determining cause of this head-on collision. A preliminary report indicated that one of the involved parties was not wearing a seatbelt at the point of impact, which could have contributed to the severity of their injuries. At this time they have ruled out drugs and alcohol as contributing factors. It is unknown if distracted driving was involved. This accident left both directions of Highway 99 backed up for approximately 2 hours while crews cleared the scene and collected information.

Who Was At Fault?

It is still too soon to know for sure. It will take about one week for the CHP to issue a traffic collision report. Sometimes police reports can be in error or inconclusive pertaining to fault for a crash. It is important to contact and experienced car accident lawyer who will investigate the matter thoroughly in order to pinpoint liability (fault) for a crash.
