Severe Yuba City Area Trucking Crash

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that a serious accident happened near Yuba City on the morning of Tuesday, November 20, 2018. The crash reportedly involved a passenger vehicle and a commercial big-rig hauling UPS cargo and took place on a highway location a few miles to the north of Yuba City. Information from responders indicated that one individual was injured and transported to a nearby hospital as a result of the accident. Updates on the condition of the injured individual have not been reported. CHP has stated that their investigators are still working to fully understand what factors may have contributed to this crash.

Crash Information

According to reports, the accident happened before dawn at around 5:30 a.m. Officers stated that a red Nissan sedan had been driving southbound on Highway 99 between Fran Phil Drive and East Hamilton Road a short distance north of a northbound commercial truck. For reasons that remain unclear, the Nissan reportedly drifted over the median of the roadway and entered the northbound lane. Reports indicated that the truck driver attempted to brake and avoid the Nissan, but the two vehicles still crashed into each other head-on. Responders said that the truck pushed the Nissan backward several hundred feet before finally forcing the passenger vehicle into a small ditch located on the side of the highway.

Response and Injuries

CHP dispatch immediately sent an emergency response team to the crash site after receiving a call reporting the accident. As responders arrived at the collision, they discovered that the driver of the Nissan had sustained severe injuries. The man was rushed to an area hospital to receive emergency treatment. The driver of the truck was reportedly not harmed during the crash.

Investigation

Traffic reports indicated that Highway 99 was closed to traffic at the scene of the wreck until at least 7:19 a.m. as investigation and highway cleanup took place. As CHP’s investigation continues, officers have not stated what factors they suspect caused the crash. Officers noted that they are still investigating whether or not DUI may have been a factor.

Trucking Accidents

Commercial trucks are massive and due to their sheer size, are some of the most dangerous vehicles on the road. Accidents involving large trucks can easily cause serious and even fatal injuries. The companies that own these trucks are well aware of these liabilities and are usually prepared to begin defending themselves legally as soon as an accident occurs. For this reason, calling a Yuba City truck accident lawyer as soon as you can is often vital to reclaiming the money you are owed for damages.
