Sacramento County Sheriff’s – Youth Gang Intervention

A $747,000 grant has been awarded to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.  This is a two-year Community Oriented Police Services (COPS) grant for an Anti-Gang Initiative.  The grant will provide funding to the Sheriff’s Youth Service Unit.  Specifically, it will provide two full-time deputies for two years.  Prior to the grant, six deputies and one sergeant have been servicing the Youth Services Unit.

It is the mission of the Youth Services Unit to focus on meeting and getting to know youth throughout the Sacramento County region.  The purpose of this is to intervene and prevent youth gang activity and violence.  The unit will work with community-based organizations to positively influence youth in the area and purposefully engage in youth gang prevention and abatement.  The unit will also work to educate the youth through school presentations and community events.  Youth mentoring programs will also be provided.

The Youth Services Unit will continue its efforts to work together with business leaders, faith-based organizations, law enforcement, and community partners to bring top-notch services and programs that encourage and foster lifestyles for our youth in the community of Sacramento County.

It is the goal of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department to cultivate and encourage resilient, optimistic and productive young women and men who will, in turn, bring about positive impacts in their young lives and make contributions to our community.
