Wrong-Way Crash in Rio Linda Leaves One Dead, Another Injured
A wrong-way crash in Rio Linda leaves one dead as the three-vehicle collision in Rio Linda claimed one life and injured another person on the night of June 6, 2026, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Wrong-Way Driver Involved in Head-On Collision
CHP reported that the crash occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Rio Linda Boulevard near E Street. Investigators said a Scion hatchback was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it encountered oncoming traffic.
According to authorities, a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Dodge Ram, traveling northbound in the proper lane when the Scion, collided head-on with the Chevrolet. Following the initial impact, the Dodge Ram rear-ended the Chevrolet, resulting in a three-vehicle crash.
One Person Pronounced Dead at the Scene
The driver of the Scion sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the driver’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
Another individual involved in the collision was transported to a local hospital after reporting pain. The extent of that person’s injuries has not been disclosed.
Impairment Suspected as Possible Factor
CHP investigators believe drugs or alcohol may have contributed to the crash. Because the Scion driver died in the collision, officials said toxicology testing conducted during the autopsy will be necessary to determine whether impairment played a role.
The investigation remains ongoing.
