Woodland Man Killed In Car Accident
On Wednesday, March 27, 2019, Yolo County authorities released the identity of a man who tragically lost his life during a local car accident. California Highway Patrol (CHP) initially reported that the man was from Williams. However, the individual was later officially identified as Zachary Ortiz, a 17-year-old resident of Woodland. Additionally, five other people suffered injuries including one serious injury.
Officers of CHP reported that the accident occurred on Sunday, March 24, 2019. Reports stated that the accident happened a few miles outside of Woodland. Ortiz had been driving a Chevrolet north on County Road 98 close to the County Road 27 intersection. For unknown reasons, Ortiz’ vehicle drifted over the roadway median and into oncoming traffic. After entering southbound lanes, the Chevrolet entered the path of an oncoming Ford. The two vehicles collided with each other head-on.
Responders were called to the accident scene immediately after the crash occurred. When officers arrived, they found that Ortiz had suffered critical trauma. Sadly, Ortiz could not be helped and passed away at the accident scene. Responders discovered five individuals in the Ford, all residents of either Esparto or Woodland. The driver of the Ford, identified as a 17-year-old male, suffered serious trauma and was taken to a Vacaville hospital to be given emergency care. Updates on his condition have not yet been made available.
The remaining four passengers of the Ford were found with minor injuries. None of these individuals required treatment at a hospital.
Officers from CHP are actively investigating this crash in order to find out what causal factors were involved. As their investigation continues, officers have not said what they suspect to have caused the accident. Police are asking for help from anyone who has information about the accident. Callers should use the non-emergency number (530) 662-4685.
Wrongful Death and Liability
Those who have lost a loved one in an accident often face very serious challenges. The emotions of anger, confusion, and anxiety caused by fatal accidents can feel overwhelming and make it even more difficult to deal with financial problems such as paying for funeral expenses and suffering a loss of income.
These issues often leave people unsure of how they will be able to recover after they’ve suffered such a tragic event. However, families can seek compensation for their losses from liable parties by filing “wrongful death claims.” These claims seek to provide families with the money that they need to recover both financially and personally after a serious accident.
