Woodland Hit-and-Run Collision

A Woodland hit-and-run crash took place on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. According to reports from the Woodland Police Department (WPD), the collision was a hit-and-run. However, officers were able to locate the vehicle and driver shortly after the crash occurred. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in injury. Information regarding the number of injured parties has not been released.

Collision Details

The accident occurred in the afternoon in central Woodland at about 1:17 p.m. WPD officer Ted Ruiz reportedly witnessed the accident occur at the intersection of Main and East streets. Video of the accident released by WPD shows a gray pickup truck heading west on Main before veering left and striking the median strip just east of the nearby railroad tracks.

After the impact, the truck bounces onto the raised median and eventually comes back down, striking a second vehicle. Directly after striking the vehicle, the pickup driver strikes a second median strip before accelerating and driving away.

Arrest Following Woodland Hit-and-Run

Ruiz immediately pursued the truck on his motorcycle and police were able to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and third street. According to WPD, the driver was a 41-year-old male and allegedly had a blood-alcohol level nearly four times over the legal limit. The man was subsequently placed under arrest for DUI as well as driving without a license and failing to yield.

Accident Injuries

Injuries suffered during car accidents can have a major impact on your life, even if the injury isn’t critical. Often, injuries affect your mobility, which can leave crash survivors unable to work, participate in activities they enjoy or even take care of household tasks. Injuries affecting the head can also cause problems with cognition, which can also affect your ability to work, exercise, and more.

Because the impact of accidents can be so major, it’s important for collision survivors to recover fully and return to their normal lives. However, the recovery process can be expensive and often involves paying for numerous medical procedures as well as medication, physical therapy sessions, and more. Combined with being unable to work, medical bills frequently cause crash survivors to feel overwhelmed.

Getting Help

Fortunately, it’s possible to get help. People who have been hurt during vehicle accidents can work with an attorney to pursue compensation through a personal injury claim. By doing this, it’s often possible to hold negligent parties and/or insurance companies partially or fully responsible for the damages you have suffered.

Recoverable damages in a personal injury claim are various and often include compensation for both personal and financial losses. However, these claims can be complex, and it is always best to have advice from a professional personal injury attorney before filing a claim.
