Ukiah Man Dead After Woodland Area Crash

One person sadly lost his life during a Woodland area crash that took place on Friday, February 14, 2020. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports stated that the accident involved three vehicles and happened in the late afternoon in a rural area outside of Woodland. Yolo County officials have identified the decedent as Jose Moliana Felix, a 40-year-old man from Ukiah. In addition to the deceased, three other people suffered injuries as a result of the accident.

Crash Information

CHP reported that the crash happened on Highway Interstate 5 at about 4:30 p.m. to the south of County Road 102. Mr. Felix had been driving a 2015 Volkswagen southbound on the highway when his vehicle was struck from behind by a 2020 Chevy. The initial collision caused the Volkswagen to crash head-on into a third car, a 2020 Ford.

Response

CHP was notified via a phone call directly after the crash and immediately dispatched a team of emergency responders to the accident location. When responders arrived, they found that the driver of the Volkswagen was critically injured during the incident. Tragically, he was pronounced deceased before he could be taken to a hospital.

Police also found a 38-year-old woman, also from Ukiah, in the Volkswagen. She was reportedly transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento to receive care for major trauma. Two young girls, ages four and nine, who had also been passengers in the Volkswagen, were reportedly not physically injured but were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Police indicated that the Chevy driver suffered minor trauma during the crash. Whether or not he was hospitalized was not reported. Finally, the Ford driver did not suffer any injuries.

Investigation

CHP is currently investigating possible causes of this crash. Investigators have stated that they do not believe driver intoxication was a factor. Anybody who witnessed the accident has been asked to get in touch with the Woodland CHP office by calling (530) 662-4685.

When a driver loses their life in a crash, police lose their side of the story. Unfortunately, this can lead investigators to overlook important evidence that could point to critical causal factors such as defective auto parts or other types of negligence. To ensure that the crash is investigated to the fullest extent, it’s important to reach out to a wrongful death lawyer who can privately look into the accident.

What Can Be Recovered?

It is never possible to truly replace what you’ve lost after a fatal crash. However, many families can claim significant compensation for both financial and personal losses by filing wrongful death claims. The payments available through these claims can help families cover their medical costs as well as provide compensation for lost income, household services, and more.
