Wood Chipper Accident Victim Passes Away

On Sunday, August 20, 2017, a young man who was injured in a workplace industrial wood chipper accident passed away after doctors determined he would not be able to recover from his critical injuries.

Napa Accident Review

Jeremy Booth, a 24-year-old Napa native, had been working for Gorilla Tree Service as part of a Napa City project to remove and trim problem trees in the Broadmoor neighborhood. Booth and two coworkers had been working on a tree on Karen Drive between Sutro and Malone streets on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, when the accident occurred.

Booth was reportedly placing limbs into a large wood chipper while his crew members were using ropes to lower limbs down to him. An errant rope fell into the woodchipper and snared Booth by the neck in the process.

Severe Injury

Although his co-workers were able to shut the machine off before Booth was pulled in, he still received serious injuries to his neck and was taken to the Napa Queen of the Valley Hospital and placed in an intensive care unit where he would fight for his life for five days.

A Hero

On Sunday, Booth was taken to a hospital in San Ramon so that his organs could be transplanted. According to members of Booth’s family, his heart and one kidney were given to one patient and his liver and other kidney to another.

Booth’s family and close relatives gathered around the ambulance that would take him to San Ramon. When interviewed, one family friend said he believes that the donation makes Booth a hero. The mother of Booth’s two children added that organ donation “was really important to him” and that, in regards to organ donation, Booth would say, “I’m not gonna need it then, so someone else may well have it.”

A Life Remembered

Booth’s family spoke to reporters and mentioned that Booth brought  “fun and good” to all of their lives. Family members said that Booth, the youngest out of six siblings, was known for his love of nature and dancing, as well as his bright personality.

Workplace Injury

Navigating California’s Worker’s Compensation System is a highly daunting task. Additionally, families in need of support due to lack of income and medical expenses typically have more to focus on than paperwork.

Calling a lawyer to help you with your worker’s compensation case can not only ease your mind, but can help you to receive the full compensation you are owed for the wide array of damages that death can cause including medical bills, loss of income potential, loss of consortium, and more.
