Woman Killed in Seven-Vehicle Crash Involving B-Line Bus in Chico
A woman killed in a seven-vehicle crash involving B-Line bus in Chico on May 27, 2026, according to the Chico Police Department.
Seven Vehicles Involved in Esplanade Collision
Authorities said the first reports of the crash came from the area of The Esplanade and East Lassen Avenue. Investigators determined that seven vehicles, including a B-Line bus, were involved in the collision.
According to police, a B-Line bus had stopped while traveling southbound on The Esplanade at the intersection. A blue sedan was also stopped in an adjacent lane when a gray sedan traveling at a high rate of speed approached the intersection.
High-Speed Impact Triggers Chain-Reaction Crash
Investigators said the gray sedan rear-ended the blue sedan and sideswiped the B-Line bus before crossing into the opposite side of the intersection and colliding with multiple additional vehicles. The sequence of impacts resulted in a seven-vehicle crash scene.
Emergency responders transported the driver of the gray sedan to Enloe Health for treatment of injuries. Two other individuals also sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for medical care.
Female Passenger Dies From Injuries
Police confirmed that a female passenger riding in the blue sedan suffered fatal injuries in the collision.
Authorities stated that, based on the preliminary investigation, no fault has been assigned to anyone other than the driver of the gray sedan.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
The Esplanade remained closed for several hours while crash investigators and emergency crews processed the scene and gathered evidence. The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.
