Woman Identified After Fatal Woodland Crash

Woman Identified After Fatal Woodland Crash – The identity of a woman who lost her life in a car accident that took place on Friday, September 7, 2018, in a rural area near Woodland has been identified. Yolo County Sheriff’s Office authorities identified the woman as Grace May, a 29-year-old Elk Grove resident, on Friday, September 14, 2018. The crash involved multiple vehicles including two passenger cars and a large commercial tractor-trailer. California Highway Patrol reports that they are still investigating the accident.

My sympathies are with Mays’ friends and members of her family while they are mourning after this terrible accident.

Crash Details

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident happened just before 2:41 p.m. May had been driving a 1997 Honda and was traveling southbound along County Road 98 around a half-mile to the north of County Road 25-A. Meanwhile, a Peterbilt semi-truck driven by a 44-year-old Sacramento man had been driving northbound on 98. For unknown reasons, May’s car suddenly veered into the northbound lane where it collided into the Peterbilt.

The collision caused the Honda to come to a stop inside of the northbound lane where it was struck by a third vehicle, an Audi driven by a 26-year-old Woodland woman who had been driving behind the truck. After the second impact, the Honda caught fire and was quickly consumed by it.

Response

CHP and Woodland firefighters were the first parties to arrive at the crash site and immediately extinguished the fire consuming the Honda. They were eventually assisted by more firefighters from Yolo County and the community of Willow Oak. According to responders, May tragically lost her life at the crash scene. The Woodland woman driving the Audi reportedly suffered minor injuries which were treated at the Woodland Memorial Hospital. Whether or not the truck driver was injured remains unreported.

Trucking Accidents

When commercial trucks are involved in accidents, it often causes extreme injuries. Because of this, trucking companies are usually ready immediately to begin defending themselves from a wrongful death or personal injury lawsuit when one of their trucks is involved in a crash. This means that it may be more difficult for the families of injured people to claim recompense if they wait to hire a lawyer and file a claim.
