Woman Hospitalized After Rollover Crash in Arcata

Woman Hospitalized Following Rollover Crash in Arcata

A woman was sent to the hospital after suffering injuries during a rollover crash in Arcata on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Reports from the Arcata Police Department (APD), stated that the accident involved only one vehicle and did not injure any other individuals. While specific details about the woman’s injuries are not available, officials indicated that she was expected to recover. The incident is under an active APD investigation.

Crash Information

The crash occurred just before noon at the intersection of G Street and Samoa Boulevard on the very southern side of the city, not far from Highway 101. Officers indicated that a woman driving a silver hatchback sedan was navigating the intersection when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle overturned, coming to a rest on its side.

APD sent a team of police and fire officials to the crash scene where they found that the single occupant of the vehicle had suffered injuries. Responders reportedly needed to remove the windshields from the front and rear of the vehicle in order to reach the survivor. After she was extricated from the vehicle using a backboard, the woman was taken to a nearby hospital via ground ambulance for treatment as well as screening for more severe trauma.

Investigation

Police have not yet reported any news about what factors they believe may have been involved in causing this crash. Single-vehicle accidents are often caused by more than one particular factor and frequently involve causes that the driver isn’t able to control. These can include issues with the roadway as well as defective car parts like brake systems, tires, or steering shafts.

Rollover Collisions and Liability

According to research published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, rollover collisions are much more likely than most accident types to involve serious or deadly trauma. There are a variety of factors that contribute to the danger of rollover crashes. However, a critical factor is that vehicles are often not able to withstand an impact to the roof. When the roof of a car crumples in a crash, it can leave those inside with major injuries that could have been avoided if the vehicle were designed differently or built with stronger materials.

In these cases, the companies responsible for manufacturing and selling the vehicle may be liable to pay for some or all of the damages suffered as a result of the crash. In many cases, crash survivors can recover a full range of losses, including payments for both economic and personal damages.
