Woman Dies in Auburn Car Accident

California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a woman lost her life in an Auburn car accident that took place during the morning on Friday, January 10, 2020. Police said that the accident involved two passenger vehicles and happened on a local highway north of the city in the area of Elders Corner. In addition to the decedent, one more person suffered injuries during the incident. The accident is under investigation by officials.

Accident Information

Police reported that a woman was driving a 2000 Honda Accord on Highway 49 at around 8:55 a.m. She had just passed Joeger Road when she slowed her vehicle and attempted to perform a left turn in order to enter a private roadway. As the vehicle turned, it entered the path of a northbound 2017 Kia Sportage. CHP says that the Kia attempted to swerve right in order to avoid the Honda, but was unable to. The Kia ultimately struck the driver’s side of the Honda.

Emergency personnel were sent to the crash scene directly after CHP was contacted. Officers say that they found both drivers with injuries. The Honda driver, identified as 68-year-old Martha Brandon of Auburn, was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency care. Tragically, she lost her life during hospitalization. According to medical responders, the Kia driver suffered minor trauma. Whether or not they were given hospital care was unreported.

Investigation of Auburn Car Accident

So far, CHP has not stated what factors, if any, they think may have been part of causing this accident. Collisions such as this one are often caused by multiple factors, many of which can be outside of the control of the involved drivers. In many cases, a faulty vehicle part or dangerous roadway contributes significantly to the collision.

Sadly, it can be difficult for investigators to fully understand accidents when one or more drivers pass away. Because these drivers aren’t able to tell police their version of what happened, important factors sometimes go unnoticed. To make sure that the crash is investigated thoroughly with you and your family’s rights in mind, it’s vital to call an Auburn personal injury lawyer who has experience privately investigating accidents. Your lawyer will be able to put more resources and skill into finding out if the accident involved any type of negligence.
