Woman Drives New Car Through Restaurant Manteca

I’m Ed Smith, a Manteca car accident lawyer. An elderly Modesto woman was driving her brand new car in Manteca during the evening hours of Friday, June 9, 2017. The elderly woman allegedly allowed her vehicle to collide with the wall of a local fast food restaurant.

What Happened?

A 66-year-old woman from Modesto was behind the wheel of her new BMW traveling along Yosemite Avenue in the vicinity of Highway 99 at approximately 8:45 pm. For unknown reasons, the woman’s vehicle drove through the north wall of a Wendy’s and came to a rest in the kitchen area. The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to sustain front end damage.

Crash Causes Restaurant Closure

The Wendy’s restaurant was closed for the rest of the night due to the crash. A city engineer was required to clear the building for structural safety before the restaurant could reopen. The restaurant had undergone a recent remodeling and was permitted to reopen the following day.

Was Anybody Injured?

According to Lieutenant Paul Carmona from the Manteca Police Department, the driver was uninjured in the accident. He also added that none of the Wendy’s employees were hurt.

What Caused the Accident?

It is still too soon to determine what caused the accident. Generally, it takes authorities from seven to ten days to release a Traffic Collision Report. However, the elderly woman allegedly admitted to authorities that she was unfamiliar with the new vehicle she was driving. This may have been a factor in the crash.

Similar Accident

A similar automobile accident took place in Ceres on November 16, 2016. A motorist was driving their Dodge Neon in the Ceres Plaza Shopping Center along East Hatch Road. The driver stated that their brakes stopped working, which caused his vehicle to drive between two parked cars and crashing through the break room of a State Farm insurance office. The car was inoperable and required a towing service to be remove it from the building. Thankfully, none of the office employees suffered injuries from the crash.
