Williams Fatal Big Rig Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento Truck Accident LawyerA fatal head-on crash took place in Williams at approximately 6:00 am on Wednesday, September 14, 2016. A motorist driving down on Old Highway 99 was attempting to overtake a vehicle but came into unexpected contact with a big rig.

What Happened?

A female motorist of a Nissan sedan was driving southbound on Frontage Road behind a tractor. The woman made an attempt to overtake the tractor. While the woman was attempting to pass the tractor, she came into head-on contact with a tomato truck.

What Went Wrong?

The impact of the accident caused the woman’s vehicle to crash into a tree. The impact also caused the tomato truck to land into a ditch and ignite a grass fire which was put out immediately. The intersection of Frontage Road in between Highway 5 and Meyers Road was shut down for crews to investigate and clean up the diesel and tomatoes on the roadway.

Williams Fatal Crash Aftermath

Sadly, the woman passed away as a result of the accident. The driver of the tomato truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

What Caused Williams Fatal Crash?

Authorities from the California Highway Patrol have not yet released a cause for the crash. They are investigating and will see if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash.

How To Avoid Head-On Crashes

  1. It is highly recommended for drivers to reduce their speeds at safe intervals. If a driver uses their brakes suddenly, it can cause the vehicle to skid and lose control.
  2. A motorist should drive to the right of the roadway. The reason being is that shoulders and ditches propose less of an impact when compared to two vehicles colliding head-on.
  3. Always be prepared for the unexpected. Head-on collisions can happen at any time due to motorists that are driving while distracted, intoxicated speeding or simply making poor driving decisions.
