Wheelchair User Injured During Eureka Pedestrian Crash
One person suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle while using a wheelchair during a Eureka pedestrian crash on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. The Eureka Police Department (EPD) reported that the crash occurred in the late afternoon in a residential area of the city. The injured pedestrian was reportedly hospitalized, but further updates on her health condition have not been provided. Additionally, no other individuals suffered trauma as a result of the collision.
Crash Information
The collision happened at around 3:30 p.m. on West Henderson near the intersection of Fairfield Street. According to witnesses, the pedestrian, identified as an elderly woman, was using the wheelchair as a walker and crossing the intersection. While crossing, the woman was struck by a blue Chevrolet pickup truck and knocked to the ground.
After they were called regarding the crash, EPD rushed a response team to the site. When responders arrived, they located the injured woman and determined that she had been severely hurt. The woman was loaded onto an ambulance and transported to a nearby hospital. Medical officials have indicated that she suffered a serious head injury during the crash.
Investigation
EPD is currently investigating the collision in order to determine what factors caused it to happen. Reportedly, the involved driver stopped at the accident scene and cooperated with police as they conducted initial investigations of evidence at the scene.
