Sunrise Boulevard Three-Car Crash Traps One Person Inside Vehicle

A vehicle rollover was reported in a three-car accident in Fair Oaks on May 17 that resulted in minor trauma to one person. The incident report on the crash said that the accident happened along southbound Sunrise Boulevard just north of Winding Way around 5:33 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) report noted that the accident blocked the number one lane of Sunrise Boulevard and left a tan-colored sedan overturned with one party trapped inside.

Extrication Required Following Vehicle Rollover Crash

Sacramento Fire Department responders were called to the scene to extricate the trapped party. An investigation is being conducted by the CHP to discover how the collision occurred. There was no information on whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.

Causes of a Vehicle Rollover

Vehicle rollovers are among the most dangerous types of accidents. Certain types of vehicles, including light pickups, vans, and SUVs, are most likely to experience a rollover because they all have a higher center of gravity. However, if any vehicle is struck just right, it can roll over when it becomes unbalanced.

In any accident involving a rollover, the vehicle should be retained to check it for defects such as roof crush. Manufacturers are held to standards with regard to roof support and strength. If a roof crush occurs, the manufacturer can be liable for injuries through a product liability lawsuit.

Reasons for Rollovers

Rollovers can occur in the following ways:

  • A car speeding around a sharp turn in the road can cause a vehicle rollover.
  • The driver losing control of their vehicle because of speeding, distracted or drunk driving, or falling asleep behind the wheel can cause a vehicle rollover.
  • A vehicle that is struck in the side by another car or truck can end up turning over if the angle is just right.
  • A driver can run a red light at an intersection and strike a vehicle legally passing through.
  • A motorist is too sleepy to be driving and accidentally drifts over onto the shoulder of the road, which causes a vehicle rollover.
  • The driver has been drinking and crosses the centerline, striking another vehicle on its front corner, which causes it to experience a rollover.

What an Injury Lawyer Does

An injury attorney finds out what type of negligence by the other driver caused an accident, which is used to show fault. This is done by collecting evidence and is performed by our investigators. They go to the site of the vehicle rollover right away before the evidence has been covered over or disappears. Among their areas of investigation, the following procedures are performed:

  • The police report has to be examined to ensure that it is accurate. Mistakes could affect the injured party’s ability to place a claim for compensation.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed. This shows how the vehicles were positioned before, during, and after the vehicle rollover. Insurance companies and courts all widely use accident reconstruction evidence as a basis for proving fault.
  • The investigators look for business, road, and traffic surveillance cameras that could have caught the accident on video. This evidence can be subpoenaed.
  • The witnesses to the vehicle rollover are interviewed. They can provide corroboration on how the collision occurred, and in some cases, may have captured the crash on their cell phones.

Once the evidence collection is complete, our injury attorneys use it to construct a case that supports our client’s claim.
