Vasco Road Crash Kills Brentwood Man

One person tragically lost his life during a Vasco Road crash that occurred on Sunday, March 29, 2020. The decedent has since been identified by authorities of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office as Gilbert Chang, a 48-year-old Brentwood man, and interventional cardiologist at John Muir Health. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of Dr. Gilbert Chang’s family to help cover his final resting expenses.

Crash Information

The accident took place just after 9:00 p.m. on North Vasco Road just north of the city limits of Livermore. Dr. Chang had been driving a red 2018 Ducati motorcycle and was heading north at an unknown speed. For reasons that police say they do not currently understand, the motorcycle crossed the roadway median and entered southbound traffic lanes. While driving in southbound lanes, the motorcycle collided head-on with a silver 2002 Chevy Trailblazer SUV. The impact caused Dr. Chang to be thrown off his motorcycle before striking the windshield of the SUV and falling to the ground.

While initial reports indicated that three or four vehicles were part of the accident, CHP later clarified that only the motorcycle and SUV were involved.

Response

When emergency officials reached the accident scene, they found Dr. Chang had received critical trauma. Sadly, he lost his life at the site of the collision. The driver of the Trailblazer, identified as a 34-year-old man from Livermore, was found with severe injuries. He was placed on an ambulance and rushed to the Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley for emergency medical care. Updates on his condition have not been provided.

Investigation

Police shut down North Vasco Road near the access road for the local landfill for around three hours while accident response and preliminary investigations of the accident scene were underway. So far, a full report regarding suspected factors has not been issued. Police have stated that DUI may have been involved.

Investigations in which a driver has lost their life are often difficult for police to investigate. Because the driver can’t tell officers their version of events, police may overlook important evidence. To prevent critical evidence from going unnoticed, it’s important to get help from a Brentwood wrongful death lawyer who knows how to conduct a private accident investigation. Your attorney will be able to use their resources and skills to protect your family’s right to compensation.

Wrongful Death Damages
