Woman From Vallejo Identified After Fiery Car Crash

On Thursday, January 2, 2019, officials of the Alameda Sheriff’s Office identified a Vallejo woman who tragically lost her life in a fiery car crash in Berkeley. The woman was identified as 25-year-old Zakiya Oliver. The accident happened on Christmas morning 2019 and, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP), involved multiple vehicles. CHP has stated that an investigation into causal factors of the collision is ongoing.

Crash Details

The accident happened at about 5:22 a.m. on the westbound side of Highway Interstate 80. Oliver had been an occupant of a vehicle that was involved in a collision that took place just east of the exit located at Gilman Street. Police indicated that the accident blocked multiple lanes of the highway and that at least one of the vehicles caught fire during the crash. Further details about the circumstances of the accident are as of yet unavailable.

Investigation

As CHP continues to conduct an investigation into what may have caused this accident, no suspected factors have been reported. Collisions in which involved parties pass away can be difficult for police to investigate because the decedent is unable to tell investigators their version of events. For this reason, it’s common for key factors, including defective vehicle parts and/or roadway hazards, to go unnoticed during CHP investigation. When these factors go unnoticed, families may not be able to claim the compensation that they deserve from negligent parties.

In order to make sure that the crash is investigated thoroughly, it’s best to reach out to a trusted Vallejo wrongful death lawyer who knows how to privately look into the causal factors of a crash. A good attorney will know exactly how to determine if any negligence was involved and can commit considerable resources to accident investigation.

Wrongful Death and Recovery

After you’ve lost somebody in a crash, life can feel overwhelming. It’s normal to experience intense and often confusing emotions after such a traumatic event, and healing is a process that can take a long time. For many, it’s necessary to take time away from their normal lives in order to focus on being with their loved ones and processing their grief. However, it can be difficult to do so when the fatal accident has also left you with a financial burden.

If the decedent was an income earner in your household or provided valuable services like cleaning, childcare, or home maintenance to your family, you may be worried about how you will be able to make it through this difficult time without your loved one’s support. Thankfully, families are often able to cover these losses through filing wrongful death claims. If you believe you may have a viable wrongful death claim, it’s always best to get in touch with a compassionate and trustworthy attorney as soon as you possibly can. Not only will contacting a lawyer early on help with your case, but knowing that an expert is handling your claim can help you feel secure during a difficult time.
