Vallejo Woman Dies in Fresno County Hit-and-Run

Vallejo Woman Killed in Fresno County Hit-and-Run

On Friday, July 31, 2020, one person tragically lost her life during a Fresno County hit-and-run car accident. The decedent has since been identified as Rochelle Weston, a 60-year-old woman from Vallejo. In addition to Weston, two other people suffered injuries. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the driver who left the scene of the accident was located and placed under arrest shortly after the accident occurred.

Crash Information

The accident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on eastbound Highway 198 to the west of Lassen Avenue. Police stated that a silver Acura was heading east on the highway at high speeds and approached a Toyota Camry from behind. Weston, the driver of the Camry, reportedly attempted to veer out of the way of the oncoming Acura but was unable to avoid the vehicle. The Acura collided with the rear-end of the Camry, pushing it off of the left-hand side of the road. After leaving the road, the Camry overturned.

After the accident, the Acura veered right, and the driver, a 28-year-old man from Coalinga, apparently lost control of the car. The Acura entered an orchard and collided head-on into a tree. After the Acura came to a stop, the driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. However, he was later located in Huron around four miles to the south of the accident site and was placed under arrest.

Injuries

Upon reaching the accident scene, emergency officials found that Weston had been critically injured. She sadly passed away on-site. The passenger of the Camry, identified as a 63-year-old man, was found with major injuries and rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical care. The Acura driver reportedly also suffered moderate injuries and was given medical care before being arrested on charges related to the accident.

Rollover Accidents

During accidents that involve overturned vehicles, drivers and passengers are highly likely to suffer serious injuries. According to the NHTSA, these crashes are one of the most dangerous kinds of accidents in the United States. One of the key reasons that these crashes are dangerous is because vehicle roofs often crush during rollovers, leaving passengers and drivers seriously hurt.

Because the companies that manufacture passenger vehicles need to ensure that their products are reasonably safe, they are often considered liable parties in accidents that involve roof crush injuries. However, it’s very important that you preserve the wrecked vehicle after a rollover so that your lawyer can determine whether or not the manufacturer may share liability for the accident.

Recoverable Damages

The care and love of a person in your life aren’t replaceable. However, families dealing with fatal accidents often can obtain compensation to help them recover financially and personally from their loss. This compensation can include payments for things like lost income, funeral expenses, personal suffering, and more. To learn what damages may be available to you, it’s best to get personal advice from an experienced Vallejo wrongful death lawyer.
