Vallejo Major Injury Bicycle Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo car accident lawyer. In Vallejo, on Thursday, July 13, 2017, a vehicle collided with a young bicyclist, leaving the bicyclist with life-threatening injuries. The reported details regarding this collision can be read in the following blog.

Accident Details

According to reports released by officials of the Vallejo Police Department (VPD), the incident occurred at around 8:45 p.m. on Columbus Parkway south of the intersection at Georgia Street. VPD reported that a 2004 Chevy Avalanche that had been driving north on Columbus Parkway while two bicyclists, a father and son, had been riding north on the right-hand edge of the same street.

VPD indicated to reporters that evidence found at the scene as well as reports from witnesses of the accident suggest that the vehicle left the lane it had been driving in before striking the younger bicyclist. The cyclist was reportedly caught on the vehicle and dragged about 100 feet before the vehicle came to a stop.

Injuries

The boy, a 16-year-old resident of Vallejo, sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. He was immediately rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment. No updates on the boy’s condition have been reported so far.

The boy’s father, a 43-year-old Vallejo man, was also struck during the accident. However, he only received minor injuries.

The driver of the Chevy Avalanche, a 53-year-old man also from Vallejo, did not suffer any injuries during the collision.

Investigation

VPD is currently working to determine exactly what caused the accident. Officers have reported that they are attempting to figure out if drugs and/or alcohol were a contributing factor.

Anybody with any information about the accident has been asked to call VPD Officer Jim Melville at (707) 648-4014 to report what they can. Callers should refer to the case numbered 17-8960.
