Vallejo Bike Fatality Update

I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo bicycle accident lawyer. Previously, we reported an accident that occurred between a passenger vehicle and two bicyclists in Vallejo. At the time of reporting, it was only known that one of the cyclists had sustained life-threatening injuries. However, it has recently been reported that the individual lost his life due to those injuries. More about the collision and the fatal injuries can be read below.

Accident Details

The accident occurred at about 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017. Officials reported that a man and his son had been riding their bicycles north on Columbus Parkway south of the intersection at Georgia street when a Chevy Avalanche traveling north on the same street drove out of its lane and collided with both the boy and his father. Police reported that the boy was dragged about 100 feet before the vehicle stopped.

Response and Injuries

Vallejo Police Department (VFD) sent emergency responders to the scene of the accident. When they got there, responders found that the 16-year-old boy had sustained life-threatening injuries and transported him to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Medical officials also noted that the boy had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Doctors have since indicated that the boy sustained major injuries to his head as well as critical internal injuries.

A Tragedy

Officials of VFD’s Traffic Division were notified on Sunday, July 16, 2017, that the boy had succumbed to his injuries and died after multiple days of medical care.

Our sincere condolences go out to the boy’s friends and family.

Investigation

This incident is still being actively investigated by the VPD who, among other things, are working to find out if driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol had anything to do with the collision. Anyone with helpful info about the crash has been asked to call Officer Jim Melville of VFD’s Traffic Division at (707) 648-4014 about case 17-8960.

Wrongful Death

The death of somebody you care about is never an easy thing to deal with. Those going through the mourning process often have an overwhelming amount of emotions to deal with. However, one thing that shouldn’t be delayed is seeking legal representation.

The party or parties responsible for the death of your friend or family member are usually not experiencing the same difficult emotional trauma that you are and are typically very focused on disclaiming responsibility in any way that they can. Calling a lawyer can help to prevent important evidence from being obscured and give you peace of mind, knowing that the legal aspects of the tragedy are being taken care of by a professional.
