Vallejo Bicyclist Killed in Crash

On the morning of Saturday, September 21, 2019, a local man lost his life during a bicycle accident in Vallejo. The collision involved the bicyclist and a passenger vehicle and only injured one person. The decedent was identified as Michael Reed, a 66-year-old Vallejo resident. The accident remains under investigation by officers of the Vallejo Police Department (VPD).

Crash Information

Reed had been riding his bicycle on Fairgrounds Drive at around 1:20 a.m. Reed was riding west across the street while a Prius was heading north in the No. 1 lane. According to reports, the Prius struck the cyclist mid-block.

When police arrived at the crash scene, they found that Reed had suffered significant injuries. Officials had Reed placed in an ambulance and rushed to a nearby trauma center. Tragically, Reed passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital. Authorities have indicated that this is the seventh vehicle-related fatality to affect the community of Vallejo in 2019.

Investigation

As VPD looks into this accident, officers have stated that low visibility may have been a factor. Allegedly, the bicycle only had one reflector on its back wheel. Police have also stated that they suspect drugs and/or alcohol may have been involved.

What Do I Do After a Fatal Accident?

After receiving the news that your loved one passed away in a car accident, it’s normal to experience intense grief. Many people are left with complex emotions, including anxiety, confusion, fear, and sadness, which can be overwhelming. For people experiencing such a traumatic event, it can be hard to keep up with your normal daily routine. For this reason, many think they should delay calling a lawyer.

However, negligent parties usually begin defending themselves as soon as they can and often attempt to disclaim responsibility for the accident. Critical evidence may go unnoticed if your loved one cannot give their version of the events to investigators. To ensure that you and your family receive the compensation you deserve for your losses, it’s essential to contact a trustworthy lawyer who can investigate the accident and hold negligent parties responsible.

Not only will having an attorney early on help you receive the total amount of repayment you and your family are owed, but knowing that a legal professional is handling your case often provides families with the reassurance and stability they need to begin the emotional healing process.
